FAQ

What is Alkyl polyglucosides (APGs)?

Alkyl polyglucosides (APGs) are a type of non-ionic surfactant that is derived from renewable resources such as cornstarch and coconut oil. They are composed of a hydrophobic alkyl chain attached to a hydrophilic sugar-based head group. This unique structure makes APGs very effective at breaking down and removing dirt, oil, and other contaminants from surfaces.

APGs are commonly used in a variety of cleaning products, including laundry detergents, dishwashing liquids, and all-purpose cleaners. They are also used in personal care products such as shampoos, body washes, and facial cleansers

How does Alkyl polyglucosides (APGs) work?

Alkyl polyglucosides (APGs) work as a surfactant, which means they help to lower the surface tension of a liquid and allow it to spread more easily. When APGs are added to water, they form micelles, which are small clusters of molecules that have a hydrophobic (water-repelling) tail and a hydrophilic (water-attracting) head.

The hydrophobic tail of the APG molecule is attracted to dirt, oil, and other contaminants, while the hydrophilic head is attracted to water. When the APG micelles come into contact with a surface, the hydrophobic tails surround and encapsulate the dirt and oil, while the hydrophilic heads remain in contact with the water.

This process helps to loosen and remove the dirt and oil from the surface, allowing it to be easily wiped or rinsed away. APGs are also effective at preventing the re-deposition of dirt and oil onto the surface, which helps to keep it clean for longer.

What is the advantage of Alkyl polyglucosides (APGs)?

One of the key advantages of APGs is that they are biodegradable and environmentally friendly, making them a sustainable alternative to other surfactants that may be harmful to the environment. They are also gentle on the skin and do not cause irritation, making them ideal for use in personal care products.
