Fluorescent Brightener: Application Industries & Usage Methods
1. Main Application Industries
Paper Industry The most mainstream application field. Used for white paper, copy paper, packaging paper, tissue paper and paperboard. It improves paper whiteness, reduces yellowing visually and enhances the brightness of paper.
Textile Printing & Dyeing Industry Applied to fibers such as cotton, polyester, nylon and viscose. It is used together with bleaching agents for grey fabrics and finished garments, home textile fabrics (bed sheets, curtains), to make fabrics whiter and brighter.
Plastic Industry For PP, PE, PVC, ABS plastic pellets, plastic films and injection-molded products (plastic pipes, daily necessities, packaging containers). Add before extrusion or injection molding to reduce yellowing and improve the whiteness and gloss of finished plastic products.
Coatings & Inks Industry Used in water-based coatings, latex paints and printing inks. It increases the whiteness of paint films and makes printed patterns more vivid, widely used for interior wall coatings and paper printing inks.
Detergent Industry For washing powder and liquid detergent. It adheres to textile fibers and creates a whitening effect under sunlight after washing, preventing white clothes from turning yellow after repeated washing.
Other Industries Artificial leather, genuine leather, daily chemical powder, putty powder, ceramics, etc. Add in small dosages as required to improve the visual whiteness of substrates.
2. General Usage Instructions (Suitable for Chemical Foreign Trade)
Note: Fluorescent brightener is not a bleaching agent. It cannot remove stains. It achieves whitening through optical principles. Always conduct lab tests in advance to verify compatibility, dosage and avoid color deviation.
Preliminary Lab Test Before mass production, carry out sample tests according to substrates to confirm the optimal addition ratio, heat resistance and compatibility with raw materials.
Adding Methods
Powder substrates (paper-making dry powder, plastic powder): dry powder mixing, stir fully with raw materials.
Liquid systems (coatings, inks, textile dye liquors): dilute with water or solvent first, stir and dissolve, then add into the main system.
Plastic pelletizing: blend with plastic pellets and auxiliaries before extrusion and pelletizing.
Reference Dosage (For reference only, subject to product model)
Paper making: 0.05%~0.3% (based on oven-dried pulp weight)
Plastics: 0.01%~0.1% (percentage of resin weight)
Textiles: 0.01%~0.5% (percentage of fabric weight)
Coatings & inks: 0.02%~0.2%
Process Key Points
pH control: Most fluorescent brighteners have an optimal pH range; deviation will weaken whitening performance.
Temperature control: For high-temperature processing (plastic injection molding), select high-temperature resistant grades to avoid decomposition and failure.
Avoid overdosage: Excessive addition will cause bluish or greyish tint, reduce whiteness and raise costs.
3. Precautions
Select corresponding grades for different substrates. Do not mix randomly across industries.
Store in cool, dry and dark place. Avoid long-term sunlight exposure which may cause product failure.
Wear gloves during operation to prevent inhalation of dust.
