Sodium Chlorate Properties

Colorless crystals or white particles at room temperature. No odor. At around 300 ℃, oxygen is released and all decomposition occurs at higher temperatures. 1g is soluble in approximately 1ml of cold water, 0.5ml of boiling water, 130ml of ethanol, 50ml of boiling ethanol, and 4ml of glycerol. The aqueous solution is neutral, and sodium chloride can reduce its solubility in water with a relative density of 2.5. Melting point 248 ℃. Has strong oxidizing properties. Friction or impact with organic or reducing substances can cause burning or explosion. Low toxicity, with a median lethal dose (rat, oral) of 1200mg/kg.

Effects and uses of sodium chlorate

The printing and dyeing industry is used as an oxidant for dyeing fine fabric and also as a mordant. Inorganic industry is used as an oxidant and can also be used to manufacture sodium chlorite and perchlorate. The pharmaceutical industry is used to manufacture medicinal zinc oxide and sodium dithiosuccinate. The pigment industry is used to manufacture advanced zinc oxide and Hualan. Used as a herbicide in agriculture. In addition, it is also used for papermaking, tanning, ore processing, seawater bromine extraction, and manufacturing printing inks, explosives, etc.

Handling and storage of sodium chlorate

Precautions for operation: Enclosed operation, strengthen ventilation. Operators must undergo specialized training and strictly adhere to operating procedures. It is recommended that operators wear self priming filter type dust masks, chemical safety goggles, polyethylene gas protective clothing, and rubber gloves. Keep away from sparks and heat sources, and smoking is strictly prohibited in the workplace. Keep away from flammable and combustible materials. Avoid generating dust. Avoid contact with reducing agents and alcohols. When transporting, it is necessary to load and unload gently to prevent damage to the packaging and containers. Vibration, impact, and friction are prohibited. Equip corresponding types and quantities of firefighting equipment and emergency response equipment for leaks. Empty containers may have residual harmful substances.

Storage precautions: Store in a cool and ventilated warehouse. Keep away from sparks and heat sources. Packaging sealing. It should be stored separately from flammable (combustible) substances, reducing agents, alcohols, etc., and mixed storage should be avoided. The storage area should be equipped with suitable materials to contain leaks.
